Tracing Native ancestry in New Mexico

"Eee, mija, in New Mexico the church kept everything. Baptisms, marriages, burials, going back to the 1600s. Start there, then we go to the archives."

Good to know: finding a Native ancestor and being a tribal member are different things. Each Pueblo and Nation alone decides who its members are. If your research points to a Pueblo or Nation, contact its enrollment or census office directly.
